2009 LEGISLATIVE AGENDA

NASW, MS CHAPTER

APPROVED BY BOARD OF DIRECTORS SEPTEMBER 6, 2008 

  1. Maintain social work licensure with current language in the law.
  2. Oppose changes in structure of MS Board of Examiners for Social Workers and Marriage & Family Therapy that would utilize that office and its funds to support other behavioral health boards.
  3. Oppose cuts in services that threaten the well being of at-risk-populations and support an increase in State revenue to fully fund services to at-risk-populations:  DHS Children & Family and Aging, Health, Medicaid, Mental Health, and K-12 education including expansion of school social workers.
  4. Support and advocate for current funding of decree settlement for DHS Division of Family and Children Services.
  5. Support options of loan forgiveness and educational stipends for social workers. 
  6. Continue advocacy for increase in pay for social workers.
