Update on Licensing and Rules/Regulations Changes 2011

The new/revised law governing social workers and marriage and family therapists was signed by the Governor as HB 607 on March 30, 2011.  It became effective as law on July 1, 2011. We want to encourage all licensed social workers to read HB 607, which is on file at the licensing board website (www.swmft.ms.gov) under Statutes.  It will show up at HB 607 when you click it. The changes in the law bring about changes in the Rules and Regulations for licensure of social workers also. It is very important that you stay up to date with the law and rules as you practice.

You can check to see if the revised Rules are posted on the Secretary of State website at www.sos.ms.gov/regulation_and enforcement_admin_.aspx.  To access the document, click on MS Administrative Bulletin, then Search bulletin, then select MBOE on drop box, and go to last item on page 3.

It is important that you read these as soon as they are posted, and submit questions and suggestions during the first 30 days of posting in order to share concerns, request any changes, or get clarification on any matters before they go into effect permanently.

Are you interested in participating on the licensing board?  These appointed positions are voluntary, and the commitment involves attending monthly meetings in Jackson to review licensing applications and attend to other matters of the Board.  This commitment is for four years duration, and you must be available to attend the monthly meetings, which are usually the second Friday of the month, and last all day. This requires dedication from you and your employer, and is a wonderful way to serve your profession!  Click below for the
